Matagorda County Fair

One of the best parts of living in a small town is the County Fair. Each year the girls get excited knowing that throughout the entire weekend they can burn all of their energy out going on ride after ride by simply showing an arm band and then running past the man running the ride(s). The atmosphere on clear nights is alive with the laughter of children and parents yelling "Get back over here".

Cadence for the most part loves the little rides. Be it a replica of the Dumbo ride from Disneyworld, or the big Fun House with the mirror-maze; she can go on the same ride over and over again for a straight hour if you let her. Above you see her enjoying the night with one of her rare smiles showing just how much she fun is having.

Jasmine continues to be our little country girl. She loves seeing the petting zoo each year where she can grab hold of a little baby pig or lamb, as well as feeding some of the bigger animals from her hands. After visiting the animals though, she loves to get an adrenaline rush riding some of the crazier rides while giving us a heart attack. She has my fear of heights though and won't go near the big Ferris Wheel.

One of the best parts about the fair for us is watching the girls have fun together. They may not get along while playing in their room, but watching them work together to conquer their goals of riding each ride as many times as possible is something to be proud of. As you can see above, they do from time to time enjoy being with each other regardless of what any of their friends think. Let's hope this last a long time.

What would a fair be without the junk food. Candy Apples, Cotton Candy, Foot-long Corndogs, Funnel Cakes, etc. You can get anything and everything on a warm Texas night here at the Matagorda County Fair. Sometimes they have fried foods that sound like something out of Japan, while other times they have some of the most creative grilled recipes this side of the county line! Nevertheless, there is always something good to eat - for the right price of course.

So there you have it, a fun filled night under the stars at the local county fair. Cadence and Jasmine leave you with more pictures of them enjoying some of the more traditional fair rides. Jasmine enjoying a spin on the old carousel, while Cadence enjoys her little two story roller coaster from the front row! If you ever need some exercise and the gym isn't cutting it, give us a call and you can follow our kids around all night at the fair!

Father and Sons Fishing Trip

Back in 2009 we started a tradition to have a Father and Sons trip each year consisting of golfing or fishing. Our first trip was a fishing trip at Bay Flats Lodge for two days of bay fishing hunting down Speckled Trout and Redfish. We battled the hot temperatures, stomach bugs, cold mornings, and whatever else got thrown at us. In the end we had a great time and created some great memories while taking time to talk about what we wanted to do next.

My brother, Robert Boudreaux gave up the freshwater fishing up north for a couple of days to come down and hit the bays of Seadrift, TX. Sporting the shades and taking on some rays, he had a lot of luck with Speckled Trout as we drifted through some beds of fish.

My father, Cully Boudreaux also had a lot of luck with the Speckled Trout. Being a master fisherman in all waters (with the right Guide), he managed to hook quite a few during our trip. We took this time to ponder whether we needed to take a trip to Alabama, head back to Foxfire in the Carolina's, or make our way some day up to Pebble Beach. Either way we knew that this trip was what we needed to continue for as long as we all could.

Our catch for the day as you can see was quite a bit. Tons of Speckled Trout lined up on the hooks for the post-trip photo shoot. There were some Black Drum on there too, but the Redfish eluded us throughout the weekend. We had a couple of nights under the pavilion talking with the guys and eating some great food prepared by the lodge. All in all, Bay Flats Lodge proved to be a very relaxing outing for our family and the beginning of a tradition that we hope to keep strong for years to come.

Memories of the Frio River

Cadence Boudreaux stopping from her time at the Frio River to take a picture. Cadence enjoys playing in the water, eating marshmallows, playing in the sand, and making new friends.

Jasmine Boudreaux also taking some time out of her busy schedule at the Frio River. Jasmine enjoys making new friends, meeting up each year with her old friends, swimming, swinging from the ropes, catching bugs, roasting marshmallows, and dancing.

One of the things the kids enjoy most is what we all enjoyed when we were young - swinging from a rope on a huge tree. This tree happens to be one of the oldest in the Riverbend campgrounds. Many weddings have taken place under this tree and wil continue to do so for years to come.

Nothing beats the Texas heat like the cold, crystal clear waters of the Frio River. The Frio River travels through the Uvalde County area of Texas located Northwest of San Antonio. To this day, the Frio River consistently rates in the Top 10 of swimming holes in Texas.

You just cannot talk about the Frio without mentioning Garner State Park somewhere in the conversation. Most people know Garner for the Dancefloor. Seeing kids get asked for their first dances is a thing of magic an innocence. Watching boys get over their fears, and girls blush red as roses. This is what it is all about. Here you can see Jasmine with Dalton who both got their first dances this year.

The most enjoyable part of the Frio River vacations we take are the people we meet. Having gone for over 14 years now, we have come to meet many families and make many friends. Our most recent group of friends that we enjoy sharing our memories with is the Petter ~ Perry Family. If you see us on the river - watch out. We can get rowdy and be a blast to hang out with all at the same time. I have said it before and will say it again - "Nothing beats the Frio River"
